Nikita Danilov, General Director of the National Federation of Music Industry (NFMI), said whether all music has gone into streaming, whether there is room for other ways of listening and how the music industry is developing today.
"In Russia, Russian artists are the most popular. If you look at the Internet market, Russian services are the most popular. The same applies to music. If you look at the development of the market, since the introduction of lockdown, the traffic of streaming services has increased greatly, but, unfortunately, streaming in pirate resources has also increased. The consumption of pirated resources has increased by ⅕. If in 2019 the music market grew to almost 45 billion rubles, in 2020 the market fell by 47.5% to 23 billion rubles due to the fact that piracy in streaming services increased and the revenue from concert and festival activities fell very much. More and more content is being consumed in streaming services. In this regard, we suggest the further development of anti-piracy legislation, which provides for blocking links, as well as more active measures to support the industry. In 2020 we estimate explosive growth, it could amount to about 20 billion rubles. What is encouraging is that domestic services are the most popular, which is a good trend, and we hope it will continue," said Nikita Danilov.
